Evening Talks

Monday 26th February : 19:30 : CafeSci Talk : “Lessons From Antarctica” – Val Vannet

We had great feedback from participants about Val’s talk last year on our local geology, so when we heard she had been visiting the Falklands Islands, South Georgia, and Antarctica we invited her to come and talk again.

Whether you are interested in wildlife, scenery, environmental issues or just want to ask her how best to plan a trip to the other end of the world, come and join us for “coffee with a little slice of science” in the relaxed CafeSci format.

Entry charge £4, free to those in FTE. MacRobert Hall, The Square, Tarland, AB34 4YL

Monday 12th March : 19:30 : CafeSci Talk “Einstein, his life and his theory of relativity and cosmology” – Professor Graham Hall, Emeritus Professor, the University of Aberdeen

Early in the 20th century, a young patent clerk stunned the scientific world with his brilliant reasoning, changed the way we see the Universe and his name became synonymous with the words “scientific genius”.

Professor Hall will explain the research that influenced his thinking and interweave Einstein’s life with his research into relativity theory and cosmology. So join us for a second “coffee with a little slice of science” in the relaxed CafeSci format.

Entry charge £4, free to those in FTE. MacRobert Hall, The Square, Tarland, AB34 4YL

Wednesday 7th March : 19.30 : Deeside Camera Club – “Everything you wanted to know about using your mobile for photography”

Using a smart phone to take photos has become the new norm. David Harper will explain how you can improve the quality of your pictures, use the full range of facilities on most phones, and add on lenses to take shots not possible with the phone alone.
